Hardware Review: Dell D820
Main System Specs(from manufacturer):
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7200 2.0Ghz
2Gig Memory
256mb Nvidia graphics card
Initial Thoughts:
After using a 2.4ghz Pentium 4 compaq presario 2500 laptop for about 2 years I was definitely pleased to get my hands on this new D820 especially since it was going to be utilizing a dual core processor which I have heard and already seen great things with.
When I first fired the laptop up I was definitely amazed at the startup speed that this D820 had offered over the Compaq which was expected given the laptop was using some of the newest technology. After startup I started to set things up and compared to many of the other newer laptops we have(D505,D510,D800,D610) this D820 definitely takes the cake.
Review:
The D820 has proven to be the single greatest upgrade I have done over the years and the dual core processor really proves it self especially when dealing with applications that are designed to take the most advantage of it’s processing power. Programs operate more smoothly and load times are much better than any new computer equipped with a less superior cpu.
The laptop itself is by far one of the best setups I’ve seen… 4 USB Ports, Volume +/- with mute buttons, compact design/structure, easy to disable wireless with side switch, powerful speakers that produce quality sound much louder than any other laptop I have played with.
Final Thoughts:
The D820 has treated me very well so far at discountramps.com and I have yet to experience any major problems with this system *knock on wood*. If anything all I have had was a couple annoyances for instance when I got the laptop the plastic cover for the cdrom/dvd drive was cracked on one side which was quickly replaced next day air by Dell. Other than that I wish it had some more usb ports as I use those very often and in bulk. I’d Definitely recommend this laptop to other people/companies as a reliable solution to their mobile computing needs.
